Branson, Missouri
We had the opportunity to go to Nate's conference in Branson Missiouri. I have had the opperunity to go with Nate almost each summer to some fun place around the USA. I have littterly loved that opporuntity. Each time we go, the conference is designed to bring your spouse or your children. I never quite knew how we could bring all of our children, but when we had 3 left at home with open schduels, we decided we would try it. We left a few days early to visit some church hstiory sites that were near by. I had gone there when I was 16 wiwth my mother. And had the best experinces. I wanted my children to go as well..
On wednesday Night we got to go to Nathen for on his fancy dinners. We were escorted there in a very fancy bus, got to tour a beuatiful rock home and see an amazing drone show. The kids were mesmerized by all the fancy. It was good for them to see Nate at work and at the conference. We got to join him for breakfast each morning and for lunch as well.
It was their first cognisent plane ride! They had so much fun. Janelle espcially. Before we got to the plane she made an autograph book for the pilot and flight attendant to sign. She was so excted to fly. To meet a pilot. To sit by the window. To take off. To land. To see the scenery from the sky. The flight did not dissapoint. We also go to swtich planes in Dallas, Texas and that was another fun adventure to be on two different planes. What a treat to travel with this crowd.
Over our trip the kids would be able to see 5 different states. Arizona, Texas, Missiouri, Iowa and Illinois. What a great adventure. Our first destination was a little town in Missouri calle Coffey. My sister Tauna has lived there for the past 3 years. It was so fun to be able to see her. She lives about 10 minutes from Adam Ondi Ahman. It was fun to see her and her husband Antonio and their son Josh. He and his wife just had a baby a few weeks before we got there. it was fun to see them.
Our first trip was to Liberty Jail. It was neat to be able to be there and see the sites we so often hear about church history. That particular day was one of the biggest tours. And the sister missionaries were in the middle of transfers and had just got about 5 new sisters. Instead of them giving the tour like they usually do, the older couples gave the tour. They were inexprienced and I was disspointed in how they presented the story. You cold tell she was really nervous! But, alas, it still was a great experience. What stood out to me, was ths struggle of suffering so deeply and feeling so abondaned by God. The famous scripture - "My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.: DC 121:7-8
That was given during this struggle. What stood out to me even more was this sciputre that happend to be in gold metal lettering on a wall.
let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong.
What stood out to me was the key when disourgament and hard times prevail- to work towards contorlling your thoughts, seek the good.
We then had the opperutnity to go to Independace Missouri and see the visitors center there and learn a few sotries of pioneers. We also got to see the cornersotne of where the temple site was dedicated many years ago by Joseph Smith. Nate thought it was quite interesteing that the Community of Christ churh who owned that property built their temple acorss the street instead of on that proptpery that was dedicated for the temple. He said, they must of known that their temple wasn't the one that that land was dedicated for.
The next morning on our way out to Nauvoo we go to go see Adam Ondi Ahman. It literaly is thousands of acres of land with just a few signs and markers.
Antonio, my borther in law, loves that place. And knew it like the back of his hand. He took us on miles and miles of walks! It was sure pretty- but we ended up with 3 tick bites. Nate had two and I had one!
We then got to go to Nauvoo. That was fun touring the homes of ancient pioneers who gave all to be apart of something they so storngly bleieved in. And only being there for 7 years, and crossing the frozne Mississippi River to go to a land that was undiscovered to worhsip peacefully. Not sure if I would have had that much faith, to leave home after home, be chased by mobs, put only a few things of what I own on a hand cart and carry them out west. I migth have said, that is too hard for me. What a faith prompting stroy. For them to leave their homews for the unknown.
Where there were just a handful of saints to now a world wide religion. This scriputre kept running through my head.
Might a man stretch forth his puny arm to stop the Missouri River in its decreed course, or to turn it up stream, as to hinder the Almighty from pouring down knowledge from heaven upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints.
Neat to see it first hand. We were able to tour the Browning home. He manufactured Browning Guns. Made Nate want to buy one when we got home!
We also got to tour Carthage jail. So many neat storeis there as well. Did you know that the jailer lived at the jail. That Joseph Smith was originally put in the Cell with shackels. And once the jailer could feel of his intetrigy let him out of the cell and gave up his own bedroom to Joseph and his frineds. Those that were with Joseph and Hyrum were not all imprisioned, just there to support Joseph. It was in that bedroom that he was matrayerd. Neat stories.
We then Traveled to Branson. We got there on a Sunday evening. The following morning we went to Silver Dollar City with Nathen. A world known amusemnt park. We had so much fun. The rides were crazy scary and fun. There were some Serra didn't want to ride so we wathced a few shows. One being a piano player. Landen saw a few of those videos we took and made me to come and watch one of his concerts. We had a great time.
Nate had to go to his conference on Tuesday so the kids and I went to a family fun park the kids had a great time. We toured Branson played in the pool just chilled and hung out with each other, spent Thusday in Silver Dollar City again and then on Firday we all toured the coolest cave the Silver Dollar City was founded on.
We went home on Friday. Serra got to get a signature from the pilot and got to prentend she was flying. The pilot was so sweet. He watied for her after the plance landed and personally gave her a set of metal wings. She was so ecstatic. In Texas our plane was delayed and we didn't get home untill 4 in the morning on Saturday. It was a great bonding experince for the younger 3 kiddos! We loved it!
