2025 Mexico Trip
This year for family vacation we went to Desemboque, Mexico We tried to stay in the US the majority of the time, so we headed west to Why, Arizona - and then went south from there and crossed to border at Lukeville. This photo is of Janelle in Why at the Texico. They turned an old ford into a water feature in their garden. Seems like a waste of old machinary, but I wouldn't want to drive one every day. |

Some friends of ours, Randy & Debby Barney, are part of the family that owns some property down there and they go down there occasioinaly. It is similar to the Woodruff house for our family. Two brothers (now in their 70s) traded for the property and them and their kids and grand kids fixed it up and go down there to relax and play. They have paddle boards, body boards, 4 wheelers, side by sides, sand rails, jet skis, life jackets, ocean toys etc. that they leave there to play with.
This is the second time they have invited us to go down there with them. One of their sons, Caden, is good friends with Ethen, and Debby was Janelle's 2nd grade teacher in school.

The drive down was easy. This trip it was harder to cross the boarder going into Mexico rather than coming back to the US.
On this trip, Landen ended up getting stung by a stingray. He was playing in the water and then ended up with a sharp pain on his ancle. When we got out he had a single puncture wound near the ancle bone. We went back to the house and called a local that helps maintain their property while they are away. She came over and made a pot of warm water. Landen soaked his ancle in the pan for about an hour and a half. It helps with sting ray stings. Then she even sucked out the posion from the wound. Mexican first aid is similar to other Mexican things, in that it is out dated. Landen recovered and even got back into the water the next day. The sting happened on the first afternoon we were there. |

Ethen & Breeana came down from Phoenix where Ethen is working at a structural engineering firm, Caruso Turley Scott Structural Engineers, as an summer engineering intern. They took out the paddle baords, and so Terra and I decided to do the same thing. We took them out first thing in the morning around 6:00.
While Terra and I were out on the ocean, we had a pod of bottle nose dolphins came up and swam around us. You could even hear them breath when the breached the surface of the water. They were very fascinating to watch. There were also many fiddler crabs that stayed in the water near the shallow ponds. |

Kyle missed this trip. He has just been transfered to St. Augustine, FL. From talking to him just after he arrived he thought the city was really pretty. I am excited that he is about 120 miles north of Cape Canaveral. Maybe he will be able to see a rocket launch from there. I keep sending him the times they are supposed to launch, but so far he has not seen one.

In October of 2018 we visited Desemboque with the Barneys, and I thought we had written a letter about it, but I cannot find it - so apperently we did not. However, here is only of the only remaining photos we have from that trip.
The bones on the fence behind us are whale vertabrae. There are a few that have washed up on the beach and they now use them for chairs to sit on. They have extended the property toward the ocean since this photo was taken, and built a large rock retaining wall to keep the ocean out of the property. |
